Tend is a word that I often overlook. I rarely concern myself when I see it in a sentence. Unless of course it's the following sentence from a book I'm reading called Modern Chemical Magic, 'Drop a blazing sponge in the mouth and close it quickly. This tends to extinguish the flame.'
